Often called Amanecer de Espana, or ‘Dawn of Spain’, Javea occupies a far point of land which faces eastward, overlooking the Mediterranean. Javea is a very sought after area, very cosmopolitan, with residents hailing from all over the world – and a thriving British expat community.
It is also the seaside resort of choice for the Spanish – it is still relatively unspoilt and far less commercial than other holiday resorts on the Costa Blanca. The Old Quarter of Javea has remained largely unchanged over the centuries – full of fascinating Moorish architecture and dominated by the beautiful San Bartolome Church, parts of which date back to 1244. A short walk away is the Fishing Quarter – still a busy, working port. Javea plays host to a fantastic range of markets, filled with fresh local produce.
There are also hundreds of restaurants, all of which are excellent value for money – eating out can be an everyday occurrence. Everything needed for everyday living is here: supermarkets, medical centres, schools, Javea’s Golf Club, and a Nautical Club.
Placed as it is midway between Alicante and Valencia (around an hour’s drive from either), and within easy reach of Madrid or Barcelona this really is an ideal spot: remote enough to be unspoilt, yet with airports and big city amenities a short distance away.
