Pinosa

Inland property in Spain is becoming increasingly popular with foreign buyers keen to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy resorts on the coast. Property in Pinoso fits the bill perfectly if you are looking for a peaceful location, with stunning scenery, in a town which – despite an increasing expat population – has managed to hang on to its Spanish character. More and more people are looking for the sort of lifestyle country property in Spain can offer – tranquil surroundings, low crime rates and a sense of community.

The town of Pinoso nestles in mountainous countryside covered in pine groves – hence its name, from the Spanish pinos for pine. 450 metres above sea level, Pinoso is a thriving and prosperous town of just over 7000 residents. It’s famous for cultivating the Monastrell grape which thrives in the white limey soil of the vineyards that you will see everywhere.

The local Bodega Co-operative wine cellar has a capacity of 14,000,000 litres – and the local wine (which is labelled with the Denominación de Origen of the wine producing region of Alicante) can be bought incredibly cheaply. As well as wine, Pinoso is a source of salt, which is drawn from the Cabac de la Sal and sent to nearby Torrevieja for processing. Marble is also excavated from the surrounding mountains and exported to Novelda.

Pinoso has attracted many foreign buyers in recent years – mainly English, German and Dutch – yet it remains a typical Spanish town, with a real sense of community. This is particularly apparent in August when the whole town shuts up shop and takes to the streets for ten days of festival celebrations. There is also the popular Dia del Villazgo Fair, which takes place in February.

Owning a property in Pinoso puts you at the heart of a genuine community – with all the amenities you need for day-to-day living on your doorstep. There is a modern medical centre, open seven days a week, good local schools, swimming pools and a sports centre and plenty of bars and restaurants. Many restaurants offer a 3 course “menu of the day” starting from as little as 8 Euros. There is an excellent road network, giving easy access to the coast, and the airport at Alicante is a 35 minute drive away.
