Corvera is a pedanía (district) within the municipality of Murcia and is home to around 2000 people, covering an area of 44.85 square kilometres.
Located on the southern side of the Sierra de Carrascoy, it borders with the pedanías of Sangonera la Verde and El Palmar to the North, to the East with Baños y Mendigo, to the west with Carrascoy and to the South with Valladolises, Lo Jurado and the neighbouring pedanía of Fuente Álamo.
Throughout it’s history, it´s main activity has always been agricultural, falling within the Campo de Murcia, it’s proximity to the Sierra de Carrascoy dictating the agricultural landscape, cut by the the ramblas of La Murta and el Ciprés, collecting water run-off from the Sierras. Although much of it´s landscape is dedicated to non-irrigated cultivation, with crops such as olives, wheat and almonds, there are also areas of irrigation, with citrus fruits and artichokes being major crops.
The pedanía is also cut by the Puerto de Cadena, the main road running between Murcia and Cartagena, a wooded pine forest corridor which gives a contrast to the arid dryness of much of the agricultural landscape.
Due it’s infrastructural advantages, Corvera has been chosen as the location for the Murcia International Airport, due to open in the summer of 2013, an investment in the pedanía which should create future business opportunities for the residents and landowners.
Corvera is also the location of the Corvera Golf and Country Club, a residential and holiday development built during the property boom years of the 1st decade of the 21st century.
Corvera holds it’s annual Fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Rosario during the first 2 weeks of October and also celebrates Semana Santa with an atmospheric procession.
