Black weekend for pool and beach drownings: Four victims, including two-year-old

drowningsFour people have drowned this weekend in the sea and in swimming pools across the country, including a two-year-old girl in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz province).

In the latter case, the tot fell into a private pool at a villa on the C/ Snipe at around 09.00hrs on Sunday and went into cardiac arrest.

She had slipped out of the house when her parents turned their back for a split second.

A man aged 51 was seen floating, unconscious, off the beach in Colònia de Sant Pere (pictured) in Mallorca at 13.40hrs, also on Sunday, and was found to be in cardiac arrest when lifeguards pulled him out of the water.

They were unable to bring him round and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman aged 40 lost her life off the Area Maior beach in Muros (A Coruña province, in the north-western region of Galicia) at 15.09hrs, despite emergency medical helicopters being sent in.

Her death comes during a weekend in which numerous alerts of bathers in trouble off the coast of the A Coruña province were reported, including four people rescued late on Saturday night near Lapamán beach Bueu and two airlifted to hospital from the beaches of Carnota and Ancoradoiro in A Coruña city.

A 75-year-old woman drowned in a private swimming pool in Alhaurín el Grande (Málaga province) at 12.50hrs on Sunday after falling in, despite a family member managing to pull her out of the water.

Guardia Civil offices are investigating whether she drowned, or had fallen into the water or died there due to a heart attack or similar.
